How to Use Free VPN Nodes — From App Install to Connected in 5 Minutes
All you need to use a free VPN node is one app and one line of text. This guide walks first-timers through install → import → connect.
What is a free VPN node?
A node is a server that relays your internet traffic. A single vless:// link contains the server address and every connection setting — paste it into a client and you're done.
There are plenty of public free nodes online, but most are already dead or painfully slow. RealFreeVPN connects to thousands of public nodes every day and publishes only the ones that load all 5 test sites — Google, YouTube, Naver, Bing and Cloudflare. Nodes are re-verified every 6 hours, so dead ones drop out automatically.
Step 1: Install a client
| Device | Recommended app | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Windows | v2rayN | Official GitHub release |
| Mac | v2rayN (Apple Silicon / Intel) | Pick the build for your chip |
| Android | v2rayNG | Not on Google Play — install the APK from GitHub |
| iPhone | V2Box, Streisand (free), Shadowrocket (paid) | No v2ray app on iOS; needs a non-China Apple ID |
Every download link is collected on the client downloads section.
Step 2: Import a node
Pick whichever is easiest:
- Copy the link — on today's free nodes, tap Copy, then choose “Import from clipboard” in your app.
- Scan a QR code — tap the node's QR button and scan it with your phone.
- Subscription link (recommended) — add it once and your nodes update themselves. The subscription link and the full node list are pinned in our Telegram channel.
Lower latency (ms) means faster. Nodes on the site are already sorted from fastest to slowest.
Step 3: Connect
- Windows / Mac (v2rayN): select a node and turn on System proxy.
- Android (v2rayNG): select a node and tap the connect button at the bottom right.
- iPhone: select a node and flip the connect switch. The first time, allow the VPN configuration to be added.
If google.com or youtube.com loads, you're connected.
Not connecting?
- Try another node. Free nodes can drop at any time — try 2–3 of the fastest ones.
- Update your subscription. If you use the subscription link, tap “Update subscription” to pull the latest nodes.
- Update your app. Older versions may not support Reality nodes.
- Some networks (work, school, certain countries) block certain nodes. Our tests run on servers abroad, so we can't guarantee every node works on every network.
Stay safe
Free nodes are run by unknown third parties. Avoid:
- Online banking, payments or logging in to important accounts
- Sending files that contain personal information
Use them for everyday browsing and video. If you need a VPN every day, a paid service is the safer choice. Always follow your local laws.
Summary
Install a client → import a node (copy, QR or subscription) → connect. That's all it takes.
Tired of copying new nodes every day? Use the auto-updating subscription link in our Telegram channel — add it once and forget it.
